All Hail The Coin, Which Has Correctly Predicted Every Jets Game

If you listened to the coin, a $100 bet, rolled over, would've yielded nearly $200,000 so far this season

J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! A 1994 quarter predicting the outcomes of all the Jets games this season hasn’t been wrong yet! Jets!

Yep, that’s right. It’s the return of The Coin. Different coin, different team, same results so far. It’s like a movie sequel.

In a world where a coin can magically predict NFL outcomes, one man in Long Island …

As you may recall, last year’s coin involved the Las Vegas Raiders, in which Reddit user Pongislame flipped a coin before the season started to predict the Raiders’ fortunes. It went 10-0 to start the year. I wrote about it. It immediately went kaputz.

This year? Alex Noon, 24, of Long Island, flipped a 1994 quarter (1994 = Pete Carroll, Boomer Esiason, a 6-10 record) before the season started. It was not, at the time, a magical coin.

“It’s the first one I picked up,” Noon said. “After I flipped it and posted the results on Twitter, I decided to save it. It’s right here, next to my bed.”

The coin hasn’t been wrong yet, up to and including the Jets’ improbable 20-17 victory over the Bills before this past bye week.

Has Noon capitalized on his coin’s — ahem, his Coin’s — fortune telling ability? In other words, has he taken New York’s or New Jersey’s sports betting operators to the cleaners?

“No, I haven’t bet on the Jets,” Noon said. “In fact, I’ve made a point not to bet on them because now I’m afraid if I bet on them, I’ll ruin everything. But other people are betting on them. I probably had over 20 people thank me for the Bills game alone.”

Well, Noon should’ve been betting based on The Coin. To date, betting the moneyline and rolling it over each week would’ve turned an initial $100 bet on the Ravens to beat the Jets in Week 1 (at -286) into nearly $200,000 after the +400 upset of the Bills.

Not very superstitious

Noon — who just passed his bar exam and plans to spend his career as a special education lawyer, helping children with special needs get the education they are legally entitled to — swears he’s not superstitious, except for right now.

“This is as far as my superstitions go,” Noon noted.

And while he’s not betting the Jets, Noon is an avid sports bettor.

“I’m a big fantasy guy, so I do bet a lot of player props,” he said.

As for the future laid out by The Coin? Well, the next two weeks don’t look great for Jet Nation, with The Coin predicting losses this week in New England and then the following week at home against Justin Fields and the Bears.

But from there? Watch out. Victories over the Vikings, Bills, Lions, Jaguars, and Seahawks await, with a loss in Miami to close out the regular season. From there, it’s a win in the wild card round and a win in the divisional round before a loss in the AFC Championship game.

“If they make it to the championship, I’ll bet on them then,” Noon said. “Hopefully that will break the spell.”

Meanwhile, Noon and his coin were invited by The Athletic to make some picks this past Sunday. The Coin went 3-0.

All hail The Coin.
