BetMGM Online Casino NJ Promo Code 2020
BetMGM is a legal and regulated site, open to all eligible players 21 and over who are physically located within New Jersey. The site launched in August 2017, and has since become one of the market’s more impressive brands. No surprise there, as it’s backed by one of the premier names in casino gambling (MGM), with a pedigree that extends back to the 1920s.
From its massive game library to its poker/sportsbook integration, dual welcome bonuses, and jackpot exclusives, there is something here for everyone. A significant revamp of the interface in 2019, along with a rebrand from playMGM to BetMGM, has only heightened the site’s allure. Not to mention, the operator has effectively leveraged its world-renowned brand so that online players will be granted an amplified experience whenever they visit one of MGM’s land-based properties, the Borgata in Atlantic City included.
All of which isn’t to say BetMGM is perfect, but as we’ll see in the sections below, the positives outweigh the negatives by a fair bit.
MGM online casino bonus offer – November 2020
Players that create a BetMGM online casino account using the links listed on this page, or the bonus code BETNJ1, will receive $25 free upon registering an account. Not only that, but they’ll also receive a 100% match up to $1,000 on first deposits. In terms of bonus cap, this offer ranks among New Jersey’s finest.
BetMGM 2020 Bonus Code & Details
|BetMGM NJ Promo Code||BETNJ1|
|Code Valid||November 2020|
|No Deposit Bonus||$25 free|
|Deposit Bonus||100% up to $1,000|
|Atlantic City Parnter||Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa|
How it works
Simply register an account on BetMGM, and once your credentials are verified, $25 will be placed in your bonus wallet. These “no-deposit funds” are subject to a 30x playthrough requirement on slots (more on other games) before they are converted to cash, which is admittedly pretty steep. But since you’ll receive this bonus simply for completing a two-minute registration process, it’s hard to complain.
The bonus funds procured from the 100% match up to $1,000 first deposit bonus are converted to cash by earning 6x the bonus amount in iRewards (loyalty) points. OK, that’s confusing, so let’s break it down.
Let’s say you deposit $500, and win a $500 bonus. To convert the bonus to cash, you must earn 6x, or 3,000 iRewards points. On slots, iRewards points are earned at a clip of 1 per $5 wagered, so in order to earn 3,000 points, we’re talking $15,000 in wagers. That’s the equivalent of a 30x ($15,000 / $500) wagering requirement.
Jackpot slots, video poker, and table games like blackjack all earn iRewards at a lesser rate. For example, it takes $20 wagered on video poker to earn one iRewards point (and $25 on most table games). That means someone who received a $500 bonus would have to wager $60,000 on video poker to unlock the bonus, or 120x.
Yeah. That’s really high. Our advice: Stick to the slots for this one, as there are plenty of slots on BetMGM online casino that have very solid returns. 30x is still high for the NJ market, but at least it’s somewhat reasonable.
Players have just three calendar days following the day of their deposit to clear the bonus, after which the funds expire. And the match deposit offer is only available for five days following account creation. We find this timeline to be oppressively tight and implore BetMGM to amend it.
What are the unique features of BetMGM?
BetMGM has done quite the job of making itself stand out in what has become a saturated NJ online casino market. Here are just a few features that are worth noting about the site:
- Game selection: BetMGM offers close to 500 games, most of them from well-known and trusted providers. Slots dominate, but there are a variety of other game formats available, including a multitude of video poker and blackjack games, as well as craps, roulette, baccarat, and Live Dealer products.
- Integration: BetMGM does an admirable job linking its online site to the MGM brand. For example, players can redeem their online points for Express Comps at any MGM Resort, including the Borgata in Atlantic City. Better yet, BetMGM’s casino and sports betting apps have all been integrated, sharing a platform and a wallet.
- Jackpot slots: BetMGM links its jackpot slots with Borgata Casino, which means the top prizes are going to now grow at an expedited clip. The site is one of just a couple that regularly offers jackpots in excess of $3 million.
- Promotions galore: Players looking for a little extra value will love BetMGM’s revolving door of promotions. Just about every day there’s a new promo to enjoy, ranging from deposit matches, double loyalty points, free spins, and cashback on net losses.
- Interface improvements: MGM didn’t just change the name of its online casino, it revamped the entire platform. The changes to the online casino platform were pretty modest, but sports fans are going to love the enhancements to the book.
What’s not to like?
- Parts of the FAQ appear outdated.
- Lackluster customer service.
Is BetMGM available for play on mobile devices?
Yes. These days, it isn’t uncommon for new NJ online casino sites to pair the launch of their desktop client with a comprehensive mobile offering, and BetMGM does just that.
The newly-revamped BetMGM casino app is available for both Android and iOS powered devices. At present, it can be downloaded directly from the main BetMGM NJ casino site, as well as the Apple Store. Due to Android’s restrictions on gambling apps, it is not available on Google Play.
Players will be pleased to know that nearly all of the games available on the main BetMGM Casino site have made the transition to mobile.
Of the games on mobile, the overwhelming majority are slots. These include the site’s numerous jackpot slots, as well as many of its featured and new offerings.
The table game and video poker selections are less impressive. There’s three blackjack games and two roulette titles, and three single line video poker variants (Jacks or Better, Bonus Poker, and Double Double Bonus Poker) from Game King. However, Live Dealer games and a few Hold’em variations are available on mobile, which was a very pleasant surprise.
Since launching, BetMGM has updated its platform significantly (including a full overhaul in September 2019), and the results are generally very positive. Mobile players won’t experience the same frequency of slow loading times and geolocation errors they did a couple of years ago. Also, many account management features and lobby filters have been added, including a full cashier, promotional and loyalty info. What’s more, accessing account management menus is way less janky than it was before the revamp.
But perhaps the biggest improvement is that players can now access the online casino and sportsbook all from a single app. Also, casino, sports, and poker all share a single wallet, although in order to play poker on BetMGM, players will have to download separate software.
Overall, the new BetMGM Casino app is both well-designed and ambitious, offering players tons of gaming options, as well as access to all the account management features available on desktop.
Game selection on MGM online casino
In terms of raw numbers, BetMGM’s game selection is toward the top of the pack, inching ahead of sister site Borgata Casino. There are aroud 500 titles in total, including a swatch of network exclusives, like progressives that award life-changing top prizes.
Slots dominate the BetMGM online casino lobby. At present, the site supports around 500 virtual terminals, and we expect that number to swell with each passing week. Players will be treated to an eclectic blend of penny slots, the majority of which feature cool aesthetics, one or more bonus games, and better returns than machines found on Atlantic City casino floors.
Popular titles like Cleopatra, Zeus III, China Shores, and Super Monopoly Money are among just a few of the games slot fans will recognize.
BetMGM also offers approximately a dozen exclusive standard slots. Like the non-exclusives, these games are primarily penny slots with low minimum bets, some as low as $0.10.
The site offers a couple of sorting options to make finding specific titles easier, but we do wish it would at least filter slots by provider. Right now, you either have to scour the Featured or New tabs for the more sought after games, search for a particular slot manually, or rummage through the entire slot selection. Other NJ online casino sites do better in this regard.
One area in which BetMGM truly excels is in jackpot, or progressive, slots. Whereas many casinos only offer one or two games where players can spin their way to life-changing funds, BetMGM has a grand total of 14, some of which offer top prizes in the millions.
BetMGM links a progressive for five slots, and shares this progressive with the same slots on Borgata Casino and Party Casino. As such, it grows quickly, currently approaching the $3 million mark. However, fair warning: this jackpot hasn’t been hit in years. No one said scoring $3 million would be easy.
The site also links five more slots for a mini-jackpot, which usually numbers in the thousands of dollars. This one hits far more frequently. Admittedly, the slots that comprise both the mega and mini jackpots aren’t exactly the most modern or alluring, but if hunting down big prizes is your thing, we think you’ll enjoy them.
Other progressives include:
- Divine Fortune: Screamingly popular jackpot slot by NetEnt, which frequently awards five- and six-figure jackpot prizes.
- Mercy of the Gods
- Monopoly 250k
- One Red Cent Deluxe
Players who revel in the idea of live casino play, but don’t always feel compelled to trek down to Atlantic City will enjoy BetMGM’s array of Live Dealer games.
Powered by Ezugi, and based out of Golden Nugget Casino, BetMGM offers the following:
- American Blackjack: Several tables with minimum bets ranging from $10 – $25.
- Unlimited Blackjack: A blackjack variant specifically for Live Dealer play that as the name implies, allows for an unlimited number of players. $1 minimum bet
- American Roulette: Double zero variety
- Baccarat Dragon Bonus
- Black and Yellow Roulette
Admittedly, players will find better blackjack rules at BetMGM’s digital blackjack tables, but that’s the tradeoff for playing in a live setting. Same goes for roulette, where a plethora of single zero games are available digitally.
BetMGM does a decent job with blackjack, providing five digital games, as well as the aforementioned Live Dealer variants. They are:
- Multi-Hand Blackjack Pro
- Blackjack by IGT
- Blackjack by NetEnt
- Vegas Downtown Blackjack Multi-Player
- Blackjack Xchange
All of these games payout 3:2 on blackjacks, and otherwise offer rules that are in line with Atlantic City games. That is to say they’re pretty good games, but not the very best. For instance, Multi-Hand Blackjack Pro forces the dealer to hit on soft 17, which is unfavorable for the player. However, Vegas Downtown does not enforce this rule. Doubles on any two are allowed regardless of the game, as are doubles after splits.
Blackjack Xchange is an interesting variant where players can pay to switch one of the bad cards in their hand, or get paid to switch out a good one. Otherwise, pretty standard blackjack rules apply. It is worth noting that the house charges an approximately 2.5% premium on exchanged cards, which is way higher than the house edge of a blackjack game with decent rules.
Other table games
BetMGM doesn’t offer a ton of non-blackjack digital table games, but give it credit for going against the grain and supporting lesser-known products that can’t be found on many other NJ online casino sites.
On the more traditional end is roulette, and BetMGM offers just two of these games: American Roulette Pro, and European Roulette Pro. Neither games are particularly fancy or feature-rich, but they do the job. Of course, always play the European version of the game, as the wheel only has a single-zero, and thus affords better odds.
Moving to the more obscure, BetMGM supports a craps game. Craps may be popular at retail casinos, but since it promotes a highly engaged social atmosphere, the game hasn’t taken off online. But BetMGM is giving it a shot anyhow, so if you don’t care about rolling your own dice, or chatting with a bunch of tablemates, this game will work for you.
Also on display are Texas Hold’Em Bonus Poker, and Casino Hold’em Poker: two games that are largely similar in that you’re trying to make a better five-card poker hand than the dealer. It’s difficult to find either of these games in digital form outside BetMGM and its sister sites Borgata Casino and Party Casino.
We would have liked to see BetMGM go even further with its table game selection, perhaps offering Three Card Poker, digital Baccarat, and Let it Ride. But at present, they’re nowhere to be found.
BetMGM has a respectable selection of video poker games, including several single-line Game King products which return ~99% or higher with optimal play. There are also three- and five-line variants with slightly less favorable paytables. Staples include Jacks or Better, Bonus Poker, and Double Double Bonus Poker.
There are single-line games by Spin, which we found to not play as well and offer downgraded paytables. Probably best to fade these.
In total, 12 video poker games are present on the site, but there are some duplicates.
Promotions on MGM online casino
Promotions on BetMGM are a decidedly mixed bag. On one hand, there’s a lot of promos to enjoy, with offers ranging from deposit matches, to loss-back offers, and increased iRewards points. Every month, expect to see a swatch of new promos, and a different offer to enjoy virtually every day.
BetMGM also offers its loyal players personalized promos, much like a retail casino does. These are basically the equivalent of mailers, where players will receive additional freeplay offers based on their recent play.
All well and good, but here’s the problem: the wagering requirement on any sort of freeplay promo is so high that it diminishes their value greatly. We’re talking 30x on slots, and much more on table games and video poker. That’s not to say you shouldn’t partake in the promotions, just read the fine print before you decide whether you want to dive in.
BetMGM loyalty program details
One of the highlights of gambling on BetMGM is that your play will count toward your overall loyalty status at all MGM owned properties. How it works is simple: Play online, and you will earn M life Rewards Tier Credits, which will be applied toward your overall annual rewards status. Tier requirements as follows:
- Sapphire: Everyone starts here
- Pearl: 25,000 Tier Credits
- Gold: 75,000 Tier Credits
- Platinum: 200,000 Tier Credits
- NOIR: Invite only
By navigating the tiers, players will open up a bevy of benefits including priority check-ins at hotels and restaurants, access to VIP lounges, guaranteed rooms, discounts at shopping outlets, guaranteed show reservations, and comped parking. Most importantly, higher tier players will earn bonus points playing slots, and bonuses on Express Comps.
Players will also earn iRewards points online, which can be exchanged for Express Comps at all participating MGM Resorts destinations, or redeemed for bonus dollars or cash online. Additionally, players can exchange their earned points for accessories, electronics, and other items at the BetMGM loyalty store.
Earn rates of both Tier Credits and iRewards Points are as follows:
- Regular slots: 1 point per $5 wagered
- Progressive slots: 1 point per $10 wagered
- Video poker: 1 point per $20 wagered
- Baccarat, blackjack, craps, roulette: 1 point per $25 wagered
Admittedly, these rates aren’t that appealing, as it will take $1 million in slots handle just to reach the Platinum level. Also, the iRewards redemption rates aren’t terrific. Therefore, we tend to view BetMGM’s loyalty program as a nice added perk, but we wouldn’t recommend that players purposely strive to earn a high loyalty tier unless they are planning on visiting land-based MGM Resorts destinations quite frequently.
Banking on BetMGM
BetMGM boasts one of the more impressive online cashiers in the NJ online casino industry, with nine depositing options available, and all of them accepting deposits as low as $10. High rollers will be pleased to note that daily limits exceed $1,500 for all deposit methods, climbing as high as $10,000+ for a select few.
Depositing options are as follows:
- VIP Preferred (eCheck): Weekly limits via this method are shared across many NJ online casino sites.
- Play+ MGM prepaid card: Perfect for those who have trouble loading directly via eCheck or credit/debit cards.
- Visa / MasterCard/American Express debit & credit cards: Use your Visa, MasterCard or American Express card to fund your account.
- Online banking transfers: You’ll need to set up Bill Pay with your issuing bank before selecting this option. Extremely secure, as you’ll log in and conduct the transfer directly from your bank portal.
- Pay with Cash: 7-Eleven, CVS, Family Dollar: Convenient cash option, no limits.
- Cash @ the Borgata Casino cage: Convenient cash option if you’re already in Atlantic City. Again, no limits.
- Skrill: Third-party payment processor. Convert your funds to many different currencies.
- PayPal: World’s most renowned eWallet. Safe, secure transactions, and decent limits.
BetMGM offers six withdrawal options, but in some cases you’ll need to have used the option first for deposits (or at least verify it) before using it for withdrawals:
- VIP Preferred eCheck
- Borgata cashier
- Play+ MGM prepaid card
- Check by mail
Checks by mail should be a last resort option, as you’re going to have to wait a while for your funds. Otherwise, withdrawals on BetMGM are pretty speedy, with most hitting your account within a couple of days. Of course, those withdrawing via the Borgata cashier will receive their funds within minutes.
MGM online casino software
BetMGM has done an admirable job ensuring that players can quickly and readily access its online casino software from just about any device hooked up to the internet:
- Web browser: The desktop/laptop platform can be accessed from any modern browser including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari for Mac. Simply navigate to the BetMGM website, and make sure that you have WiFi enabled so that you can be geolocated in New Jersey. From there, select the game of your fancy, and get to playing.
- iOS/Android: BetMGM is available as a downloadable application for both iOS and Android devices. The app comes paired with a full-fledged sportsbook so players can easily jump back and forth, without opening additional software. Currently, there are well over 300 games available on mobile.
Customer service at BetMGM
Customer service on BetMGM is a decidedly mixed bag. On the one hand, the site offers a pretty extensive FAQ and neat system of helping players find answers to the most common questions. On the other, it’s annoying that players have to go through this system first before they’re even given the option of chatting with a real person.
Additionally, Live Chat agents don’t appear to know the product as well as they should. Often times, we had to go to great lengths to help agents understand what we were asking. Phone and email communication were marginally more satisfying, but these agents were also severely in need of more training.
